Why smart, you ask?

The 2016 Ford Transit now offers SYNC 3 – Ford’s newest communications and entertainment system. It offers quicker performance, hands-free voice recognition, and also a smartphone-like touch screen along with an easier to read graphical interface for when you’re on the road. All 3 models of the Ford Transit – the Transit, Transit Connect and Transit Connect Wagon – now come standard with a rearview backup camera and trailer assist technology. Trailer assist activates automatically as soon as the vehicle is shifted into reverse.

Along with the rearview camera, an overlay displays on the screen that helps to guide drivers to line up both the trailer and the hitch. The rearview camera also comes with an option to display the area behind the vehicle as well as directly behind it. Now available for the first time, the 2016 Ford Transit will offer dual sliding side cargo doors with 58 different vehicle configurations, 11 more than the 2015 model. How’s that for flexible?

A safer way to get from A to B

Another feature is the newly redesigned speed limitation, which tops out at 70 mph. With this, it will encourage safer driving habits along with helping reduce fuel costs. On the 2015 Transit models, the speeds can be limited from 65 mph to 75 mph. Even more upgrades were added to the 2016 Transit. One of those upgrades being auxiliary fuse panels, which are optional, available on all Transit models to power custom upfit accessories or other implements. For drivers who need extra power for lights and/or equipment, a single absorbed glass mat (AGM) is optional on all gas engines. Also optional on wagons is the heavy-duty alternators, which gives more power to run accessories. Map lights and front dome lights will also be standard on all Transit vans, along with a USB jack that sits right above the cupholder in the center console.

Along with the 2.5-liter I-4 engine, the 2016 Transit will have a standard flexible-fuel system. Engineered to run on E85 (85% ethanol and 15% gasoline), unleaded gasoline, or even both if blended. The reason why is because ethanol burns cleaner and is also more renewable than other conventional fuels.

The 2016 Ford Transit Connect Wagon

As a no-charge option, the bucket seats are available on the XLT long-wheelbase model. For the first time, the XLT also comes with a six-way power driver’s seat available in cloth interior.

Another new option for the 2016 Transit Connect Wagon XLT and Titanium models is the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS).
